Just wanted to post an update on the status of Retro Convoy. As of this moment, the series is on the most MINOR of holds until Blender 2.8 and Eevee is a bit more feature complete.
Rendering out these shorts is a pretty massive undertaking; it takes multiple days to render a two minute short, sometimes closer to a week, and this is assuming there's no re-rendering due to glitches or changes (spoiler: there always is). And finally, all of this for a 720p image with pretty poor quality (I have to crank up the denoiser, which decreases the grain but increases the blur. For the record, Retro Convoy has been rendered at 100 samples, denoiser on, 720p).
Anyway, all this render time for a mediocore quality image isn't really a good tradeoff. With Eevee, Blender's new real-time render engine, I'll be able to get 1080p renders at 60fps, a massive increase.
With this render change, I'll be moving Retro Convoy to a longer format, between 15-25 minutes. My heart lies with longer form story-telling, and Eevee is gonna allow me to dive into that and tell more in-depth, weird, character driven stories in the Retro Convoy universe.
I'm using the "break" to write scripts, build models, and re-make the Retro Convoy character rig. I'll still be streaming and posting updates to social. https://www.twitch.tv/kelthor_power
Very exited about where this is all heading; the future is bright for indie-animators!
Lot of weird, fun stuff planned for Retro Convoy, so stay tuned.
